Mesothelioma -- is big money in lawsuits. It is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by asbestos exposure. In this disease, malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body's internal organs. Its most common site is the pleura (outer lining of the lungs and chest cavity), but it may also occur in the peritoneum (the lining of the abdominal cavity) or the pericardium (a sac that surrounds the heart).
Most employees and other people who develop mesothelioma have worked on jobs where they inhaled asbestos particles, or they have been exposed to asbestos dust and fibre in other ways, such as by washing the clothes of a family member who worked with asbestos. Unlike lung cancer, there is no association between mesothelioma and smoking.[1] Compensation via asbestos funds or lawsuits is an important issue in mesothelioma (see asbestos and the law).
Asthma -- What Is Asthma? Asthma is pronounced(Az-muh) and it is a chronic lung and respiratory disease that affects your airways. The airways are the tubes that carry air in and out of your lungs. If you have asthma, the inside walls of your airways are inflamed (swollen). When the airways react, they get narrower, and less air flows through to your lung tissue. This causes symptoms like wheezing (a whistling sound when you breathe), coughing, chest tightness, and trouble breathing, especially when irritated by an allergic reaction
Chronic bronchitis -- Bronchitis is an inflammation of the bronchi (medium-size airways) in the lungs. Acute bronchitis is usually caused by viruses or bacteria and may last several days or weeks. Chronic bronchitis is not necessarily caused by infection and is generally part of a syndrome called chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); it is defined clinically as a persistent cough that produces sputum (phlegm) and mucus, for at least three months in two consecutive years.
Asbestosis -- What is Asbestosis? It is a breathing disorder caused by inhaling asbestos fibers. Prolonged accumulation of these fibers in your lungs can lead to scarring of lung tissue and diminished breathing capacity. Signs and symptoms of asbestosis usually don't appear until many years after exposure. But once apparent, the condition often worsens and can lead to disability and even death.

Silicosis -- Silicosis is caused by exposure to respirable crystalline silica dust. Crystalline silica is a basic component of soil, sand, granite, and most other types of rock, and it is used as an abrasive blasting agent. Silicosis is a progressive, disabling, and often fatal lung disease. Cigarette smoking adds to the lung damage caused by silica.

* Masonry and concrete work (e.g., building and road construction and repair). * Mining/tunneling; demolition work in residents and factories.
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease -- What is Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)? COPD refers to chronic lung disorders that result in blocked air flow in the lungs. It could be caused by smoking cigarettes. The two main COPD disorders are emphysema and chronic bronchitis, the most common causes of respiratory failure. Emphysema occurs when the walls between the lung's air sacs become weakened and collapse. Damage from COPD is usually permanent and irreversible.
Chronic obstructive airways disease -- What is COAD =Chronic Obstructive Airways Disease. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the result of lung damage due to two conditions – chronic bronchitis and emphysema. These diseases affect different parts of the lungs. However, they nearly always occur together, which is why they are now usually grouped together in the term Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Sometimes the bronchitis may cause more trouble, with the emphysema being only mild; and sometimes it may be the other way round.
