Hopefully 23-year old radiographer Kathryn Knight saw the funny side, when she injured her ankle while working for Bradford Royal Infirmary last year, receiving 3,000 in compensation. The accident occurred when Knight was at work in May last year, when she was pulling a screen that would allow privacy for patients along her ward’s corridor; whilst Knight was pulling the screen, one of the wheels hit her ankle, which resulted in broken bones.

Knight should never have put herself in this position, as these screens are designed to be pushed, rather than pulled; however, she was not to know this as she had never received any training on handling these screens. This accident could have been avoided if Knight had received the proper training, and she could have escaped the hassle and discomfort of suing her own employers, not to mention a very painful and debilitating experience. Bradford Teaching Hospital NHS Trust accepted the liability for the injury sustained and an out-of-court settlement of 3,000 was awarded to Knight, after a legal case was brought to their attention.
