Mesothelioma -- is big money in lawsuits. It is a form of cancer that is almost always caused by asbestos exposure. In this disease, malignant cells develop in the mesothelium, a protective lining that covers most of the body's internal organs. Prolonged accumulation of these fibers in your lungs can lead to scarring of lung tissue and diminished breathing capacity. Signs and symptoms of asbestosis usually don't appear until many years after exposure. But once apparent, the condition often worsens and can lead to disability and even death.
